Alex's Wishlist » 2009
I have tried to give you some idea of the approximate costs of these things (if my estimate is way under the actual price, then there was probably a communication error and you should probably ask before proceeding to buy anything). In the case of things with different sizes, or things that are outdated, try hovering over them to see a tooltip of what size it is or why it is outdated.
- Food
- Candy — Chocolate (better), sugar
- Calendar — Wall (monthly) and possibly some funny desk calendar (this should be a calendar for next year, of course — for my 17th birthday in November 2006, I wanted the 2007 calendar, for example)
- Clothes
- ThinkGeek
- Think Globally
- Others you think are cool... (Talk to Dad, maybe, and don't get any with jokes about Base 2, Base 16, etc.)
- ThinkGeek
- Computers
- USB KVM Switch — support for three computers a plus. My PS/2 KVM switch now has only a monitor and a keyboard attached... and the keyboard won't even work when I connect it to my laptop with the little PS/2 to USB connector. I feel like the KVM switch isn't very useful when all it is doing is V, because each computer needs a separate K and M.
- Laptop case (to put in my backpack — should fit Lenovo T400 (14.1" screen))
- Docking station (for Lenovo T400) ‐ these things seem shockingly expensive, though...
- Components for a new server (CPU, motherboard, RAM, hard drives (2 for RAID), case, etc.) (or gift certificates to somewhere that sells these things) (I'm hoping to end up with a server within a few hundred miles of me...)
- External monitor
- Headphones — earbud and ... the other type
- Glasses
- Ridiculously structural case (my backpack can be rough...)
- Cloth for wiping glasses with
- Books — check the list of books I own first — it may not be up-to-date, but anything on there I definitely have, so getting me another copy is probably a bad idea
- Fun
- Comics
- Girl Genius — I probably own the equivalent of Volumes 2–7
- Schlock Mercenary (store)
- I own four of them — Under New Management, The Blackness Between, The Tub of Happiness, and The Teraport Wars
- I'm missing The Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance
- Pins and children's books aren't really my thing, but anything else you see at the store would probably be fun...
- Sci-fi and fantasy — These are kind of hard to do. I go to FoPAL enough that for older books, at least, I have plenty. I guess this category is roughly limited to new books that you have heard recommended, or books from specific authors who I like.
- Rick Cook's The Wizardry Compiled and sequels/prequels
- Terry Pratchett
- David Weber
- Louis McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga
- Comics
- Fun
- Music
- Jonathan Coulton
- Musicals
- Postal Service
- Guster
- Movies / TV shows (in approximate order of decreasing awesomeness)
- Angel
- West Wing
- Dr. Horrible
- Buffy
